NiMet: Gombe, Bauchi, Adamawa Others To Experience Floods

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has listed Gombe, Bauchi, Adamawa,Borno, Yobe, Katsina, Sokoto, jigawa, and Kano States at risk of high floodings. The agency predicted that the floods may be experienced in August, September and October due to excessive rainfall. This was disclosed by the Director-General of the agency, Professor Mansur Matazu in Abuja. Matazu said stated that northern states of Kebbi, Kaduna, Taraba, Nasarawa and Yobe will experience medium risk of floods within the stated time. According to Matazu, some states in the South East and South-South will experience normal to below normal rainfall. He said the states include: "Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Abia, Imo, Anambra, Ebonyi and Enugu." The DG further called on all emergency management agencies to be at alert while setting their public awareness plans in motion. He called on the agencies to “begin their awareness campaigns through field extension workers for possible response activities especially at high risk areas," as reported Vanguard.
